Let’s talk about amulets, hamsa, and the evil eye symbol we’re seeing everywhere these days. I see them so much now even all over Nigeria and in Nollywood, which was pretty shocking. The ignorance is annoying.
According to encyclopedia Brittanica, an amulet, also called a Talisman, is an object, either natural or man-made, believed to be endowed with special powers to protect or bring good fortune. It’s under the category of protection, magic, and superstition. Amulets are carried on the person or kept in the place that is the desired sphere of influence- e.g., on a roof or in a field. I’ve seen so many people wearing these on their clothes, jewery, tattoos, even phone cases.
Story time!
Okay, so I had a client a few months back who had the evil eye on her phone case. I saw it, and discerned some things by the Holy Spirit. As she was speaking, she started opening up to me and the Holy Spirit told me to tell her what the symbol means. I didn’t, and kept doing her hair and went about my day. Guess what, she came back and sat right in my chair a few weeks later! Haha. Where I used to work, there was a rotation and clients are assigned at random! So she didn’t ask for me, she just ended up with me again. Holy Spirit said, okay NOW tell her! So I did.
At first she defended it, and said she’s Greek and in their culture, even all over Lebanon they have them and use them for protection from evil. I asked if she’s a Christian and she said yes. So I explained to her the consequence of using such instead of the power of Christ is exactly what she’s attempting to avoid - evil! She was having strange sickness that came out of nowhere and a freak accident happened when she left me the first time. This is why obedience is so important people! Lives depend on our obedience.
To the glory of God, she was convicted by the Holy Spirit, got rid of the case and realized what I said was right. I prayed and surrendered the rest to God. I believe she got some deliverance that day!
If you are in Christ, there is NO need for an amulet. It can’t protect you. It’s an inanimate object that becomes a portal for demonic presence and oppression because you’re now using other powers outside of the Spirit of God for protection. I think it’s so powerful that before God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, He gave him instructions to clean house! The bible says in Genesis 35:
“Then God said to Jacob, ‘Go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you [in a distinct manifestation] when you fled [years ago] from Esau your brother.’ Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, ‘Get rid of the [idols and images of] foreign gods that are among you, and ceremonially purify yourselves and change [into fresh] clothes; then let us get up and go up to Bethel and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.’ So they gave Jacob all the [idols and images of the] foreign gods they had and the rings which were in their ears [worn as charms against evil], and Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Sechem.”
In Ezekiel 13 God comes for all the witches and false prophets and says,
“Now you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who are prophesying out of [the wishful thinking of] their own mind (inspiration). Prophesy against them and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, WOE to the women who fasten magic (protective) charms on all wrists and make veils for the heads of those of every stature to capture [human] lives!”
If you’re using wearing any of these, THROW THEM AWAY! OUTSIDE of your home, car, workplace, wherever they are! Repent for relying on powers outside of the Power of God through Christ Jesus. Put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the only true Savior, Protector, and Healer.
Exodus 34:13-14;17 "but ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: for thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God... thou shalt make for yourselves no molten gods
Isaiah 44:10-11; 17 "Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together... and the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it and saith, deliver me; for thou art my god."
